East Sutherland Sailing Club
The club is a registered Royal Yachting Association training centre for sailing and power boating. Members sail dinghies old and modern including Dart 16 catamaran, Toppers; Picos; Laser Stratos and various older craft. Sailing days and courses are displayed on the window of the clubhouse with relevant arrangements. Family days and other events are held throughout the year. Occasional trips to the West are made in particular to the Loch Clash sailing club in Kinlochbervie. This Autumn it is planned to organise cruising from the Clyde or Oban where participants can work towards recognised yachting qualifications.
The club works with the local coastguard and lifeboats to provide rescue facilities and each Autumn train in a major search and rescue incident.
The club have become involved in the recording of sightings of cetaceans including dolphins; porpoise and minke whale. Sightings are passwed on to the local Scottish Natural heritage office in Golspie and are a useful contribution to the greater understanding of these fascinating creatures.
Basically we all enjoy messing about in boats. The club is friendly and informal and please get in touch if you would like to join us.
All equipment can be hired including wet/dry suits and buoyancy aids Visitors are always welcome even out with club sailing days and should telephone Ian Murray on 01408 634380
